About Master Crumb
After spending quite some time in the world of sourdough, I started feeling a need that you've probably felt too: a tool to keep track of all the calculations.
I was losing a lot of doughs. Calculating the right proportions of starter, flour, and water — while also considering the hydration percentage of both the dough and the starter itself — is trickier than it seems. And when you have a busy life, juggling multiple things at once, it's so easy to make mistakes.
That's when the idea came to combine my tech background with this passion for baking. I built a simple, practical tool for anyone venturing into the world of sourdough.
This is a tool I use every day. I'm still on my own journey of learning and improving, so updates to my workflow will eventually be reflected in the calculator as well.
Beyond the calculator, I realized there was so much important knowledge to share: how to create a starter, how to maintain it, how to troubleshoot problems. I wanted to present this content in a practical, easy-to-understand way, because I know there are so many questions out there.
And you know what? Making sourdough is therapeutic. Creating your little creatures, nurturing them, discovering that you can ferment with different liquids, that there's a whole dynamic of temperature, flour quality, flour type... These discoveries are fascinating. It's a journey that can last a lifetime.
I want to share this with you so you don't waste as much time as I did trying to figure everything out from scratch, getting lost in calculations.
That's why I created Master Crumb: a calculator and a collection of multilingual content about sourdough. I hope it helps you on your journey.
Happy baking!
